This is just a brief introduction to writing in wordpress on the site. I want to be sure everyone feels comfortable with the way wordpress and alltheserooms works so I’m making this post to help people understand everything they can do on the site. So if you’re new to wordpress and allttheserooms read on.
So, to start off, to become an author on alltheserooms.com just sign up as a subscriber and comment on 3+ poems, indicating on your 3rd comment your interest to join the workshop. We’ll take a look at the helpfulness of your comments and then decide whether to bump you up to an author.
Now on the nitty gritty. Authors can post poems or any other kind of writing as they see fit. To access the section of the site that allows you to post simply click on the site admin link in the lower left hand corner of the site.
This brings you to the admin section of wordpress. To write a post click on write toward the top of the page. Be sure to select the appropriate categories for you post before publishing it. Usually this will be your name and whether you want it workshopped. Most of the write page is self explanatory, so I’ll cover what’s not obvious but fun/helpful.
Besides the typical bold italics and other buttons you’ll find the handy blockquote button on the tool bar which offsets the texts like this. It’s the little arrows with lines besides it.
To go back to normal text just hit the buttn with the arrow pointing away from the lines.
You’ll find the tags editior below the post editor. You can add tags to your post to help people find it when searching. Tags are just words that have something to do with your post.
If you want to let people know something additional about your poem/post I’d suggest just commenting on it after you post it.
Another nice thing is being able to add images. you can either load the image below the text box in the little menu with the upload button outlined in white. you do this by clicking browse, finding the specific image on your computer then clicking on it and clicking open.you then title the image, and if you like add a description. then click upload. After the picture uploads you’ll see it. Now click on where you want the image to appear in the text box, chose whether you want it to be a thumbnail or fullsize, then click send to editor. another option is to upload the image to a hosting website like imageshack.org. Then you click on the little tree picture and fill in the url of the image along with any other info. You can also add video clips by uploading the video to a site like youtube.com or google video and then using the same button (tree image thing) and inserting the link.
you can also use the more button if your post is a bit long so it won’t take up too much space on the front page. I’ve done this for this post by clicking on the boxes with a dashed line between them by the abc button, which lets you toggle spell check on and off.
lastly you can add a link by highlighting the text you want to be the link, clicking the little chain button and then inserting the url into the pop-up window.
well I think thats most everything. if you run into any problems or have any questions feel free to post them here.
